Style Profile: Samuel Lippke
[Name] – Samuel Lippke
[Line of Work] – Event Photographer
[The Detallista] – Favorite accent color?
[Samuel Lippke] – Blue.
[TD] – How does your line of work influence your personal style?
[SL] – I really work hard to not steal the show when I’m working. I want to blend in and be comfortable. If it’s a black tie event, I’ll be wearing a tuxedo and a black tie. If it’s a beach wedding, I’ll be in chinos and a short sleeve button up. When I’m off work though I push the limits.
[TD] – Article of clothing you obsess about most and give an example?
[SL] – I start at the bottom and build up. Shoes or boots. Also, I am a huge sunglasses and watch guy.
[TD] – One rule of style you follow most?
[SL] – You can never be too overdressed.
[TD] – Your style icon or an element of style that you love every time you see it?
[SL] – I always track back towards Steve McQueen’s grit, James Bond’s swag and a touch of Nick Wooster’s braveness.
[TD] – A style you admire on others but don’t or can’t pull off yourself?
[SL] – The drop crotch. Never been able to pull it.
[TD] – As a creature of habit, do you have any rituals/habits for your daily routines?
[SL] – Instagram: @samuellippke find me.
[TD] – What travel destination has left the greatest impression and why?
[SL] – Banda Aceh, Indonesia. I went there to aid Tsunami victims in 2004. Long story, but it changed my life forever. Even had terrorists chasing to kill me.
[TD] – How have your travels influenced your style or interpretation of style?
[SL] – Traveling is about packing light, being comfortable and fitting into your environment. Those are three tough things to combine. I pack a lot of grey’s and blacks with a few things that have color bursts. Summer climate= more color. Winter climate= more grey’s and browns.
[TD] – Could you share your list of essentials when packing for a trip?
[SL] – I’m a sunglasses guy, I build so much from sunglasses and shoes. Must have a few good jackets too. Everything else is easy. Oh!, and bring 5 hour energy drinks and sleeping pills for overseas trips. You have to trick your body to avoid jet-lag.
[TD] – Any motto’s you live by or dress by?
[SL] – Live everyday as if its your second to last. Live hard but be smart about it.
[TD] – Most memorable wedding dress or grooms attire and why?
[SL] – I just photographed a bride in a peach colored dress. Her mom flipped out about it. I personally loved it. Groom’s tend to wear converse just to piss me off. Don’t wear converse with a tuxedo!
[TD] – Name a time or place where you were or are most visually stimulated?
[SL] – Two spots: The first, Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro during Carnival: so many hot bodies, sexy thongs and so much color, it was unreal. The second, is the Souks in Marrakesh, Morocco: Colors, smells, everything happening so fast and beautifully.
[TD] – List a photographer you admire – past and/or present?
[SL] – I love Slim Aarons. He was trusted by celebrities and paved the way with color images. I love Mario Testino and Andreas Gursky as well.
[TD] – Any favorite blogs or sites that you visit for style/visual inspiration?
[SL] – whereisthecool.com, thisisnotnew.com and gthegentleman.tumblr.com.
