Style Profile: Davis Fetter
Name: Davis Fetter
Line of Work: Musician
[The Detallista] - How would you classify your style?
[Davis Fetter] - Simple, yet effective.
[TD] - How does your line of work influence your personal style?
[DF] - It’s only natural that the music you listen to reflects your style. Music shapes your mood and outlook, which influences what you choose to wear.
[TD] - Any motto’s you live by or dress by?
[DF] - Don’t wear a costume. Wear what makes you feel confident.
[TD] - One rule of style you follow most?
[DF] - I like to blend different influences together to create something fresh.
[TD] - Favorite accent color or color combination?
[DF] - Black and blue.
[TD] - Favorite accent or statement piece?
[DV] - Leather jacket.
[TD] - Article of clothing you obsess about the most and give an example?
[DF] - Probably my jeans. It takes me a while to find a good pair of jeans.
[TD] - Out of all your creative outlets, which do you feel inspires your style the most?
[DF] - Playing live for sure. Each live show adds to the history of the clothes I wear. I like my clothes to get lived in so to speak.
[TD] - Your style icon? And Why?
[DF] - Pete Doherty. He has one of the most original looks at the moment.
[TD] - An element of style that you love every time you see it?
[DF] - Confidence. That is the most important element of any style.
[TD] - A style you admire on others but don’t or can’t pull off yourself?
[DF] - Oasis in the 90s. They had the coolest style but the baggy look just doesn’t work on me.
[TD] - List a performing artist – past and/or present – whose style you admire most. And why?
[DF] - The Clash. They were the first band to wear classic men’s attire with a real edge to it.
[TD] - As a creature of habit, do you have any rituals/habits for your daily routines?
[DF] - I always play guitar when I wake up.
[TD] - Number one style rule that you feel gentlemen forget about?
[DF] - Most men forget to have confidence in their own identity with how they look. No matter what scene (hipster, mainstream, etc) I feel that too often men dress to fit in rather than make a statement.
[TD] - Favorite place/location in the world?
[DF) - East London.
[TD] - Name a time or place where you were or are most visually stimulated?
[DF] - When I saw Iggy Pop in concert.
[TD] - Favorite Southern California hot spot?
[DF] - The Sayers Club.
[TD] - Where do you get your inspiration from, lyrically, and when performing?
[DF] - The lyrics I write are stories that come from my life experiences and from the music I’m listening to. My favorite performers are Chuck Berry and Morrissey.
[TD] - What advice would you give a singer/songwriter who is just starting off?
[DF] - Be true to yourself and what you have to say. Don’t worry about compromising to appease any trend. Keep it honest. This world has enough dishonesty already.
[TD] - Your dream collaboration would be with….
[DF] - Julian Casablancas.
[TD] - Would you care to share a style or trend that you would never do again?
[DF] - Boot cut jeans.
[TD] - At first glance, you may not know that I…
[DF] - Can play the drums.
[TD] - Any favorite blogs or sites that you visit for style/visual inspiration?
[DF] - I like music blogs the most. If a new band I come across sounds cool then they usually look cool. Music is always the best gateway into fashion for me.
[TD] - Your go to style guide (books/magazines)?
[DF] - The best style guides are usually album covers from the bands I like. Most of my favorite artists always looked great on their cover art.
[TD] - Any additional tips or comments you would like to add?
[DF]- The best fashion statement I could ever make is simply my music.
